Phuket

The boat from Phi Phi to Phuket took about two hours. There’s three boats that go during the day- 9, 11 & 2. The port is unorganized and even though we bought our tickets in advance you have to stand in another line to get stickers ( happens for most of the boats). 45 minute taxi from the port in Phuket to our hostel in Patong. 

Bearpackers hostel in Patong was really nice- we had a six bed dorm so it was hit the five of us and there were separate men and women’s bathrooms for the floor.  The rooftop area had a great view of the ocean from the pool. 

Our first night we went to Bangla Road. It’s bright lights and a lot of promoters in the streets. There is one alley section that has all street food stalls. There was a fire show happening as well in that area. It’s mostly go go bars and big night clubs on the street. We sat at a busy bar for a beer and to people watch. 

So in additional to all of the club promoters there are a lot of people on the streets promoting ping pong shows. After seeing ads for the shows in Bangkok we decided to go to one- all part of the experience right? 

A promoter quickly saw we looked interested and brought us to the show- which was downstairs, hidden away from the street. There were maybe 15 other people in the room and we were sat on a couch at the side. A waitress came over to take our drink orders. The show and entry is free but everyone has to buy a drink. The cheapest beer was 900baht (like $25) so after deciding to go ahead and spend the money- we were going to stay for our moneys worth. There are girls in lingerie walking around the ‘audience’ entertaining any of the guys who looked interesting.  The stage is in the middle of the room- and the show cycles though so we got in right as it was all starting off. Even though they’re advertised as ping pong shows- more than just that is on display. There were 3-4 women doing the ‘tricks’- aka pulling a variety of objects out of their vaginas as a show- ping pong balls, lengths of ribbon, ribbon with nails...goldfish...a parakeet. Shit got weird. And we were uncomfortable. But it’s all apart of the experience right??
