Watsons Bay
I hadn’t gone on any long walks in a while so I thought it would be a great idea to walk from Bondi to Watsons Bay. It’s about 6 miles/9 kilometers one way- it wasn’t a terrible walk-just boring for a lot of it.
It’s more or less one road, Military Road to Old South Head Road, from Bondi to Watson’s Bay. The majority of the walk was just on the street which is the boring part- but it does go through Dudley Page Reserve which has fantastic views of the harbour, Opera House and the Harbour Bridge.
After Dudley Page Reserve, the walk gets a little more interesting because you can get onto a coastal walk and be along the water. Macquarie Lighthouse is on Dunbar Head- was the first lighthouse in Australia. From there you make your way to the Federation Cliff Walk that has great views over the water. The walk up to Hornby Lighthouse takes you through Camp Cove Beach and past Lady Bay (nude) beach. There are plenty of spots to look out to Sydney Harbour and the view at the lighthouse looks across at Manly.
There are plenty of restaurants (casual/upscale) by the ferry in Watsons Bay. There is of course the option to jump on the ferry and go into Circular Quay- and the 380 bus runs from Watsons Bay to Bondi Junction. If you’re looking for an long walk it’s worth going from Bondi- otherwise I think it’s just as good of an experience to take the bus to the Military Road stop in Watsons Bay.
