Palm Beach
A bit of a hike from where I am in Bondi or from Central Sydney-but if definitely worth the trip if you pack a picnic and go for the day!
The route:
Wynyard station stand b- Bus: b1 northern beaches bus (Mona vale)- exit at Narrabeen
Narrabeen- get on the 199 (Palm Beach)
I got off at Pittwater Park for a bit of a longer walk- but there is a bus stop right at the entrance to Governor Philip Park.
There is also a bus, L90, that goes direct from Wynyard to Palm Beach- either way it’ll take about 2.5 hours to get to Palm Beach.
There are plenty of grassy areas and picnic tables around in the first part of the park by the car park.
There are less facilities on the beaches and no facilities on Barrenjoey Head (by the lighthouse)
I did the walk first- in total it probably took me 30-45 min- including stopping to take pictures. The path up to Barrenjoey Lighthouse starts on the beach- and there’s two path options- smugglers track & the access trail. I went up smugglers track which is 400 meters on steps (grade 3). Coming back down I went down the access trail which is 800 meters (grade 2). There are a few (mostly) cleared areas that you can stop at to take beautiful pictures over the land and water.
The beaches on either side are connected by multiple little paths that go through the greenery.
There is a little convenience shop and restaurant within Governor Philip Park and restaurants along the main road.
The beach was quiet and the perfect place to relax for the day.
