Travel day: Thailand to Bali

Travel day: Thailand to Bali

Our first of two flights was at 9:20am. We got a mini bus from the hostel to the airport with plenty of time to spare. All going well through check in- the five of us went to separate immigration desks.

I handed over my passport and departure card and used the fingerprint scanner as the agent asked. Thought the agent was going to hand me back my passport but instead she asked me to follow her... alrighty. Heading towards the interview rooms I started getting nervous because I wasn’t quite sure what could’ve been wrong. Then she stopped me at the overstay desk. The agent handed over my documents to the man at the desk. With a smile he told me that we had overstayed. I turned around to everyone else starting there walk to the desk as well. It was August 30th and our passports were stamped for departure for the 29th- the timeline for our free 30 day visa. Yes, we probably all should have realized the date our passport was stamped for—but realistically we were 9 hours over the limit and probs could have talked our way out of it if any of us were thinking right. The fine was 500baht so it wasn’t tooo terrible.

Immigration aside our flight to Singapore was an hour and a half and then we had a two and a half hour layover there. Singapore airport is gigantic and you could spend days wandering around at all of the entertainment they have to offer.

The next flight to Denpaasar Bali was 2.5 hours and we had arranged a taxi to pick us up when we arrived. Traffic was insane getting to where we were staying in Canggu. The driver said it could take an hour but took closer to two.

We booked beds at Escape Hostel. The hostel was really nice and is four ten-bed dorm rooms all connected to a huge shared bathroom. There was free breakfast included in the price but the breakfast was really just toast and coffee- when you’re paying only $9 a night can’t really complain. Escape is in a great location- bunch of restaurants and bars near it and less than ten minute walk to the beach.
