Bali Accomodation
Canggu- Escape Hostel
I really liked this hostel and it was in a great location- ten minute walk to the beach , plenty of restaurants to pick from, and Finns Beach Club is in walking distance. The rooms have 10 bunks each and there are large lockers underneath. The beds were really big and had a half wall to the outside with a curtain you could pull down next to it to completely close off your bed. The bathroom set up is one long hallway that all of the dorm rooms have access to- plenty of shower stalls & toilets but like 3 sinks which is kind of a strange set up. The rooftop area had pool tables, mulitple seating areas and of course an infinity pool. Breakfast is included with your stay- a simple buffet of fruit, toast and tea & coffee- but free is free. The staff was helpful when it came to needing to get a taxi to our next stop.
Ubud- Ubud View Bungalows
Ubud was my favorite city in Bali and Ubud View Bungalows is in a perfect spot that makes it easy to wander the area. The bungalows themselves were simple- two single beds, a desk, closet and wet-room style bathroom. Every bungalow has a little porch which is nice to be able to sit out at at night. The biggest downside of the bungalows was locking the main door- you had to use a padlock to lock it from the outside, and there was a large wooden pole that slid into the door to lock it from inside. The issue being that when I left early (the middle of the night reallly) to go on a sunrise trek, I had no way to lock the door behind me. The pool and open-air dining area are off to one side of the property. The reception area had a ton of information about different activities and things to do in the area. The front desk staff were more than accomodating when it came to helping us book day trips and arrange our taxi & boat to the Gili Islands.
Gili Trawangan- 5 Brothers Hotel
Set a few blocks back from the lively main road- 5 Brothers Hotel is small but super nice. The rooms were really clean and all have a pool view. The bathrooms are open air style- which was cool but also ran more of a risk of showering with a lizard. There is a large mosque in front of the hotel, and the call to prayer is played over a loud speaker. i thoght it was really cool to hear throughout the day- a change from the sounds of bike bells and horses clacking down the road. Breakfast was inlcuded with the booking- options included pancakes, scrambled eggs & toast or pancakes- always served with fresh fruit and tea or coffee. There are no cars on the island- making bikes the easiest form of transportation- and the hotel has bikes you can rent daily for 80,000 rupiah- and it's totally worth it. The guys working are super friendly and always had a suggestion for the best bar or the best spot to watch the sunset.
Seminyak- Villa Daley
A private villa after staying in hostels/hotels for five weeks was luxury. The vila is beautiful- set back from the main road, the villa is a main house with kitchen, living room and bathroom. the bedrooms are in a builidng opposite with the pool in between. There are two spacious rooms on the bottom floor and one large master bedroom on the top floor--incluidng an outdoor bathtub. A chef came in every morning to make us breakfast- which was such a treat. It was very easy to walk to may of the main busy areas with bars and restauarants. Where the villa is seemed tricky for grab/taxi drivers to find so it was easiest to walk out to the main road. Because we only had a few days in Seminyak we were out all days most days-so i would love to be able to go back to the villa to just relax--and take advantage of the in-villa spa treatments!
